You’ll always find new social media websites entering the World Wide Web. Twitter is just like these sites. It’s a social media community that is based on the simple concept of “What are you doing?” or about updating the world regarding your life on a regular basis. It allows you to post every small update about what you are doing or even any immediate thoughts that you want to share with the others.

There is a limitation of 140 characters for each update (tweet) that you post, which means you need to get to the point in your messages.

Since Twitter has gotten hugely popular it can be a wonderful traffic generator. You can harness the power of Twitter to direct traffic to your website as well. It is important that you follow a set of rules if you want to succeed using this tool.

If you’ve studied Twitter marketing even a little, you must know how it’s critical to have lots and lots of followers on your Twitter account if you want to start getting real traffic. Actually, this is only partially true. Why? Because you need to look at the other alternate ways too. Instead of just gaining a huge number of random followers, your goal should be more effort in to getting a lot of highly TARGETED followers. This will bring a variety of people to your list who are very interested in what you have to say, and it also gives you the chance to tweet and receive responses. If you want to make this happen, identify other people in your market and start following them. If you follow them, they may follow you in return. But having a steady group of followers doesn’t mean you can simply bombard people with tweets that advertise products from affiliates. This is definitely not the best approach as you don’t want your followers to begin looking at you as just someone else who’s trying to sell them something, which obviously can have a negative effect. So before you jump into this situation you have to keep the followers’ perspective in mind. How do you find out what your followers want? By posting links to interesting, relevant content. Make sure your information is useful to the following.

You need to gain trust from your Twitter followers, without it the relationship you need to build just won’t happen. Once the relationship is solid, they will begin to view you as a fellow enthusiast and authority in your field. Only then should you include promotional links with your content links, but do it in moderation. Another excellent idea is to start making your own targeted searches on Twitter and begin looking for folks who are asking specific questions which are related to you particular niche market. As soon as you have accumulated a good amount of questions, it’s time to begin sending out informative answers. For this you can either create a high quality blog post or also an article/video/audio that not only answers the question but tries to solve the problem. But your responses must be pertinent and accurate and helpful so they are of value to the questioners. And be sure your product link is included at the end of whatever content you provide.

If you have done any degree of homework on Twitter marketing, you will be aware that increasing the number of people that follow you and staying in contact with them is one of Twitter’s most significant traffic generating components. However, these aren’t the only ways to drive targeted traffic to your website or blog. A great tactic is to tweet an update that contains a link to whatever it is you wish to advertise. If you want people to know about a product of yours, all you have to do is tweet a link that will take them to the page the product is on. Twitter allows you to build and maintain a whole new way of promoting your business, promotions and anything new can be posted and will cause a surge of traffic to your website. Twitter hasn’t been around for long but it is a force due to its rapid growth. The possibilities are endless! All that is necessary to see results with no delay is to combine a working sales plan with level headed thinking.
